Q. Why are there two shapes of litter, round and chunk shaped?
Answer - Many people prefer the original round style, especially those with automated cat boxes, such at LitterMaid. But others like the new chunk style crystals because they do not roll if your cat displaces them from the litterbox.

Q. For optimal use of FreshMagic, is there anything I should be aware of?
Answer - Yes ! There are three, Scooping, Hesitancy of cat to change, and Scatter.

Scooping: When I scoop the cat litter the Fresh Magic Crystals do not fall through the scoop. Solution: Your retailer should be able to get a suitable scoop with wider slots for you. If not, order one from www.petfooddirect.com on our ordering page.

Hesitancy of cat to use new litter: Mix small amounts of FreshMagic with the old litter, and increase gradually while reducing the amount of the old litter. After two weeks, clean box and use FreshMagic only. Your cat will now be accustomed to the new litter. This small effort on your part will return a world of benefits.

Scatter: Original FreshMagic crystals are round, and will roll if the cat causes them to be displaced from the litter box. If this is a problem, try our new chunk style crystals, which do not roll. There are easy solutions for eliminating roll and scatter altogether. An inexpensive solution (usually under $40) is a dog house style covered cat box. Your retailer should have one, or can easily get one for you. This is a one-time investment in a healthier home environment. For more details and more information, see our recommendations at the end of this section. Many customers that use a covered cat box report that this type box seems to extend the useful life of FreshMagic considerably.

2. More Information/Suggestions/Recommmendations

Q. How does FreshMagic work?
Answer - Short answer: like magic! Absorption is what happens when a sponge soaks up urine. The urine remains in the sponge unchanged, and the odor still emanates from the sponge, just as occurs with other cat litters. Adsorption is a chemical interaction whereby a change of physical properties occurs. Silica sand crystals completely adsorb urine and its odor until a saturation point occurs, at which time the litter should be changed. This adsorption process also kills bacteria.

Q. What is it?
Answer - The product is made from silica sand, a naturally occurring earth mineral. Silicon is an element. This product is silicon dioxide (SiO2), also called silica, or silica sand. It is chemically and biologically inert.

Q. Is it safe for pets and children?
Answer - This product is completely nontoxic to pets and humans.
Silicon dioxide is used as a food additive in such products as beer, salt substitutes (Diamond Crystal® Salt Sense) and dry coffee creamers. Obviously, because of the contact between cat litter and the cat's eliminations, a physician should be consulted if any child is suspected of ingesting or handling any cat litter of any type.

Q. Do I have to scoop the cat droppings? Yes.
Answer - The product will dry out the droppings, and the occasional diarrhea by gradually pulling moisture from them, and will reduce odor, but regular scooping is recommended. You will need a scoop with wide slots, as described above.

Q. Tracking?
Answer - FreshMagic crystals are specially sized to eliminate the messy tracking associated with standard litters. You do not want bacteria-laden litter tracked through your home, even in trace amounts.

Q. Is it biodegradable? Yes.
Answer - When put in a compost pile or landfill, the material completely biodegrades back into the earth in about one month.

Q. How long does it last?
Answer - One bag will last the average cat one month under ordinary circumstances.
The shelf life of the product will decrease if kept in an area such as a bathroom or damp basement because it continuously adsorbs moisture. Also, if you have a very large cat with a very large bladder, the useful life of the product may be shorter than one month.

Q. I notice the crystals have turned yellow. Does this mean it is time to change?
Answer - The yellow staining comes from the cat urine and does not in itself indicate change. Please read the next paragraph.

Q. When should I change the litter?
Answer - When you can notice a slight urine odor from a distance of 30 Cm (twelve inches) twenty minutes after scooping or whenever you notice any moisture in the litter pan. These are signs that the litter has reached its saturation point and it is time to change.

Q. I have more than one cat. How often should I change the litter?
Answer - With two cats, use one bag of Fresh Magic and change it about every two weeks. It is not advisable to use two bags at a time to last two cats one month. With three cats, use one bag of fresh magic and change it every ten days. With four cats, use one bag of fresh magic every week. Also, see the previous paragraph.

Q. Can I flush it down the toilet? No!
Answer - This could clog your drain. Put it out with the garbage or into a compost pile. If a few crystals cling to the solid waste that is scooped, this is harmless.

FreshMagic cat litter is an advanced technological solution to the problem of cat box odor. The use of this product alone will completely defeat the problem.

But we value our customers, and we listen. A concern expressed occasionally is the problem of scatter . This occurs when the cat displaces crystals from the litter box. We offer some suggestions for your consideration.

Placement. Many of our customers tell us the ideal solution to scatter is to use a covered catbox, face the opening towards a wall, and put a mat between the wall and the catbox. They tell us this virtually eliminates scatter.

Mats. At least put a mat around the cat box. This mat should have ridges so that any displaced crystals are stopped from rolling, and also the ridges help dislodge any crystal that may be stuck in the cat's paw.

Cat box. We have some suggestions in different price ranges.

From the experience and feedback of users, we highly recommend that you use a covered cat box with a mat. This relatively inexpensive one-time investment in the elegance of your home will provide a complete solution for cat box odor problems. Many customer that use a covered cat box report that this type box seems to extend the useful life of FreshMagic considerably.

There are a number of "doghouse" style cat boxes with removable tops. Most sell for under $50.00. Some have a scooping mechanism that the owner operates manually. Make sure that the openings in the scooping mechanism are at least ¼" wide, or the FreshMagic crystals will not pass through the scoop.

Helpful Hint- Some cats may at first be hesitant to use a dog house type litter box. Leave the top off for the first two weeks of use, so the cat will become accustomed to it. Scoop litter as usual. The cat will then readily use the box when the top is on.
